iPad mini, and mounting external hard drives?

Hello!

First post here, please be nice!

I'm seriously considering buying an iPad mini, is it possible for me to connect an external hard drive to view photos, listen to music, watch video clips etc via a wired solution?

USB > iPad Mini converter?

Any help appreciated!
