Thinking of treating myself to an iPad, but totally unsure about which one to go for.

I don't have a specific use for it in mind, would ideally like to be able to sit in bed and stream things from my NAS drive. Just general use, nothing particular.

If you had a choice, what would you go for?

Cheers!

Can only give my own opinion, and ultimately what I went with and that's a Mini.

I think it's the perfect size/form for a tablet and bridges the gap nicely between a phone, and a laptop.

Out of interest, have you ordered the iPhone 6? Do you think that given the increased siz of the phone, the Mini may be too "phoney" ?

I've had every 10inch ipad, and an iPad mini 1st gen which I sold before I brought the air I am typing on now. When the new ones come out I will most likely get a retina mini and sell this. Much prefer the size of the mini.

The Mini is the absolute perfect size and weight to just lounge around surfing the net but if you want to sit down and stream video a lot then I'd go for the Air as it's hardly cumbersome.

What's the size of the keyboard like when in portrait mode? Are the keys really small? I should probably get down to an Apple store and give it a go.

I am so tempted. Will probably go for a package with EE or similar. Did you buy it outright?

Just looked on Mac Rumours and it suggests an updated version will be out this year with Touch ID. It seems daft to buy now given a new one will be out soon.

Yeah I brought it outright, I'd wait a few weeks though as new ones are usually released around Oct/Nov time which means new models to chose from, or cheaper older models :)

For me the 6 Plus is going to mean I won't need to take my Air when I commute and just leave it at home for sofa/bed stuff, and a couple of people who reviewed the 6 Plus have stated that it's made them retire their iPad Mini permanently.

For me iPhone 6 Plus + iPad Air + Mac covers all my bases. Someone else might find an iPhone 6 + iPad rMini + Mac suits them.

There were a few iPad apps I purchased not long ago which were really useful for my work, I ended up selling the iPad (4th gen) because I was offered a good price for it.

Would an iPhone 6 plus run all the iPad apps normally or would I be better going for an iPad mini? Are there any new iPads due to be released soon?

I have had a few iPads, iPad 2/3/rMini. For me personally the rMini is the perfect size, its a tad small for Netflix but for games/web browsing it feels just right, I personally found the Air was a tad to cumbersome for gaming which annoyed me.

I would also wait for the next gen iPads, they should be out by November, I'm really really really hoping touchID lets you log into separate profiles.

The Plus is still an iPhone and runs iPhone versions of apps, although there is the potential for the 2-Pane iPad-like stuff on it.

Usually the iPads have tended to be updated around spring, barring the swift update from the 3rd to 4th gen which was done to keep parity with the iPhone. Whether they update the Air with Touch ID etc sooner rather than later isn't entirely clear - the parts leaks aren't coming in thick and fast, but then if it's just an Air with faster guts and Touch ID the parts list is going to look mostly the same anyway.
