Basically the deal is I have an original iPad. I like it but it is so slow it's unusable, like if you're on a website and you tap a text field it can take 10 seconds for the keyboard to appear, I guess that's normal though.

From my credit card points i've got enough points for a bunch of vouchers at an electrical retailer.
The amount I've got is enough to buy a 32Gb iPad mini wifi or I could add 40GBP and get a 16Gb iPad4 wifi.

I like the size of the iPad mini but I'm worried the slower processor in it from the iPhone 4S will make it obsolete quickly. I have the iPhone 5 and was hoping for an iPad with the same speed.

Am my worries unfounded that the iPad Mini will become obsolete quickly or should I just get the iPad4?

its upto you mate.. speed or size that's the choice.

I got a mini yesterday as I wanted something smaller so I can take it away and out/about with me. I use all versions of full size ipads at work and ever since its came out, I always wanted it to be smaller.

I don't think mini will be obsolete as people are getting them mainly due to the size; but it all depends on what your going to do with it. Does the speed; screen size matter? One of my mates who has the mini and ipad 4 says he prefers the mini as its nicer to use due to the size.

The other choice would be to get a full size ipad and to look for a cheap mini tablet such as the nexus 7.

A key thing you have to remember that even thought the iPad mini is technically slower in terms of processor... It doesn't have to 'power' a larger display at retina resolutions, so in terms of real performance I don't think you'll notice too much (It is certainly fast enough for me and have never thought it was too slow).

I thought the hardware in the iPad mini came from the iPad 2? In which case it'd be fine performance wise, especially with the smaller screen to power.

I wouldn't buy a mini now just because I'd be kicking myself when they release a retina version!

Space is important, the missus, who is certainly not a power user has managed to fill a 16gb iPad easily with games, vids and iPlayer downloads so I'd go 32gb as a minimum. Taking a few hd movies on holiday will soon fill 16.

I'd also agree with getting 32Gb minimum... I ummed and arrred about 16 vs. 32 and now think 64 would be better!

There are still a lot of products using the A5 chip - iPad 2, iPod touch, iPhone 4S, iPad mini so it won't be obsolete that quick.
