iPad Mini Retina - Now available!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've had my mini retina for 24 hours now and although overall I'm happy with it there's really not much noticeable difference between this and the previous mini, a casual glance and you'd struggle to tell them apart!

I still prefer the mini to full size but I remember iPad 4 display being much richer and vibrant,.

Give it a few months and those new Mini's with samsung screens and fingerprint sensors will be released. Absolutely feel this is the mini version of the iPad 3!

Doubt it on the TouchID tbh but I wouldn't be at all surprised if better quality screens started appearing in new models in a few months.

Just walked into a high street store and picked up a 32GB retina mini. Apple Store was sold out, and this came with a 3 year warranty to complement the Apple Care, so was a bit of a no brainer! First iOS device in 3 years; very happy so far!

EDIT: Eye-candy :D

These can be reserved for collection in the UK TODAY.

http://www.apple.com/uk/retail/ipad/

EDIT: Make sure to click the correct reservation button in the link above i.e the one to reserve an iPad and not to reserve an appointment.

EDIT2: Got one reserved for collection before 17.00 this evening at the Bath store. Will let you know if I actually manage to get it!

Hope it's not too heavy for you.

Has anyone found any decent cases yet. Just bought a flip case off of the jungle shop that said is was compatible but it just wouldn't fit into the plastic holder.

Apparently some Minis are suffering with image retention. Read: http://www.macrumors.com/2013/11/15/some-retina-ipad-minis-showing-image-retention-issues/

I've tested mine, no issue.

I posted this on the previous page, tested mine and sure enough there is image retention. The effect does fade after a few seconds but this really is a pain when reading in iBooks etc. I'm waiting for my local store to open as we speak to get a replacement but I think it might be a while before Apple can replace it :(

I've ordered a cheap one off the bay, not paying £55! Will see how it is.

The Anandtech review is up with some proper screen measurements. Pretty much confirms what everyone's been saying - it's good but clearly inferior to the Air's display.

After using mine over the weekend ive decided to return it and get an air instead. The screen is a massive improvement on the ipad2 i have now, but the form factor just isnt working out for me. Its no more comfortable to use than a full fat ipad and therefore the compromise in screensize is not worth it for me, particularly when one of the main uses is for watching video.

You will never get a cheap knockoff smart case/cover that is as good quality as Apple and it's also not covered by a warranty.

I took my red mini Smart Cover from last November into apple yesterday as it was a bit knackered and not working properly anymore and they just gave me a new one no questions asked.

No doubting customer service at Apple.

Third party cases and covers exist and are good quality as well but a cheap imitation is never as good.

You could just buy invisible shield for backs and sides and a screen protector for the front and it's like it's naked except protected. I use the Smart Cover mainly as a way to turn the display on and off. It's not for protection.

I've been looking at both this and the Air as a future replacement to my Mini, but I think i'll hold out for a larger iPhone that should appear later next year.

I have a feeling Apple will do the same with the iPhone as they have done with the iPad range, have two sizes with same specs, to cater to people who want a big screen.
A 5inch iphone would make me very happy :-)

£289 at Tesco :)

Had a look at a mini retina in tescos tonight lol. :o

The text was sharper and noticeable on the home screen etc but not worth the hassle/cost to upgrade from the original mini. I much prefer the mini size to the normal iPad. Though I do have a 13" MacBook so it's a good middle ground between that and my old iphone. :)
