Don't have any experience with this issue, however I'd imagine that staff in the stores will deny anything or state that it is normal (and it probably is "normal", but I wouldn't accept it if it could be avoided). I'd recommend contacting AppleCare over the phone to sort it out rather than your local Apple Store.
 
I would just go too the Apple store and ask them for a replacement that is totally not normal and it seems to have some serious issues. If the staff member doesn't seem to helpfully I would just request to speak with a manager.
