I was given an old Ipad 1 which was working, I did a reset which got stuck and now only shows connect to itunes, (after being on charge overnight as the battery was flattened).

Itunes wont recognize the ipad when plugged in, sees my iphone fine, just not the ipad, its on a Mac, with original cable (which I tested with an old iphone 3gs and it sees it and syncs fine). I have tried the hard reset whilst connected but the mac still wont see it.

Any ideas, I am a very novice apple user?

Anyone near Whitney, Oxfordshire, have a Mac I can try to restore my Ipad on, my Mac is old and wont update (tried and it failed and was a right pain to get working again)?

is that when you hold down the power and home key until it shows the connect to itunes? if so, then yes but itunes doesn't see it

I hold the power button, it goes black after about 6 secs
I then hold power and home, apple logo after about 8 secs, release power button, keep holding the home button, then I see connect to itunes graphic, keeping hold of the home button, but itunes still doesnt see it. release and still nothing.

Is there any way to tell if ipad is in DFU mode from its screen?

still not working, goes back to itunes logo and mac doesn't see it - could it be the cable, works with iphone 3gs?

tried again and as long as i hold the home button, just a blank screen, when i release after 20 secs, black screen. Tried power and home again, back into same routine of apple logo to itunes logo

followed instructions from utube and mine doesnt do as it should - could this be because the battery may be too low to go into DFU mode?

Think I'll leave it off (or whatever it is with a black screen at the moment) and plug it into a charger overnight to see if its a battery problem.

Its a bit strange, if I plug it into my pc with itunes running, the pc recognizes there is an unknown device attached, tried installing itunes, still not seeing it (even after playing with the apple usb drivers as instructed by apple website)

just got it back from the repair shop - they couldn't get it to recognize either, thinks it is a software problem on harware check saying that the battery or port is knackered. He got it charged, so thinks the hardware is ok, just the software on reset wont see them as serviceable!

not yet, going to drain it completely, then give it a full charge, if that doesnt work it will be recycled!

Latest update, left it in DFU mode (screen off) on charge for 5 days, tried again. This time itunes saw it and tried to restore, unfortunately I get restore failed, it gets to the apple logo with a progress bar, but no further - any ideas? Its an error code 40, unknown error, I have updated itunes, checked security settings, unplugged as many other usb devises as I can, anything else I should do?
