iPad on a flight?

Has anyone had any issues using one on a flight?

I'm assuming if I put it on airplane mode it shouldn't be a problem?
 
It's not going to be a problem, you'll still be asked to turn it off to take off and landing I guess.
 
Yeah, laptops, phones, tablets are fine. Just strap yourself in and any loose articles during take off and landing.

I don't believe the line about allowing pilots to use them on duty though. My friend is a train driver and he said he can't have any of the aforementioned with him while on the controls. It will be even stricter in a cockpit.
 
Never had a problem, even the flights that tell you to check electronic devices with staff have never said anything, everyone just gets their devices out.
 
They'll be using it for electronic checklists, manuals and that sort of thing rather than actually using it to fly the place via wi-fi!
 
One thing about flying with an iPad I've noticed is not the flying part, but the security.

Every time I go through in the UK they ask if you have a laptop, to which I answer "No", they then ask if you have an iPad and to remove it from a bag like a laptop. What I find odd is that I was always under the impression that they make you remove a laptop because they want to be extra cautious with the scan, in case it is a bomb or conceals something. I believe also they might ask to turn it on, but I think that's rare these days. Even though laptops have gotten way smaller, they are still way bigger than an iPad. I don't see why an iPad needs removing from my bag? Infact items like my camera could conceal something far more than an extremely thin iPad where it is near impossible.

Finally, why do they ask for an iPad and not a tablet? Do they not check other makes? lol

when i flew the other week, id seen people having to take their laptops out of their bags in front of me, so when i put my little carry on case in the tray, he said "have you got a laptop?" and i said "no but I have an ipad in my handbag?" he said "no thats fine" and let me through with it inside my handbag?

That’s happened to me a few times. I just say I have a tablet and they ignore it.
