iPad or Android for a child?

My son is currently using my other halfs old iPad air (2014) and whilst it's doing a great job for him at the moment the battery life is noticeably dropping and I believe it's no longer supported.

He plays Roblox and the usual kids games as well as YouTube.

Would we be best buying something that'll last 2 or 3 years and upgrade in the future or going for a top of the line model?

Any assistance and model suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
 
How old is your child?

I would recommend heavily restricting the time they spend independently on a tablet, they are terrible for social development.

Of the 2, ipad is much better. But make it a family device that they have restricted access to.
 
I have an original Ipad Air too and it's so slow by today's standards. Surprised he isn't complaining about it in Roblox. I used to play it with my niece a few years ago and it just about worked but crashed out of some of the more complicated worlds. If price is not a factor you can't really go wrong with Apple stuff. On the other hand a modern budget Android tablet would work too for kids games.
 
Would recommend getting a Ipad that has an A12 or upwards. If your looking to save some money you could buy some CEX voucher on MM (often listed) at around 80% of the value and pick up the ipad from there.
 
Thanks all for the replies, he's 4 and my other half has set a time limit of an hour per day and only then if he's behaved. She's locked it right down so he can't do very much with it, gives me a chance to do the dishes whilst he's on it :D.

Surprisingly it seems to be more than adequate for everything he does with it but we're aware it's not going to get any faster as it's quite aged now.

The fact it's still running so well has really swayed me towards apple at least for tablets.
