The other day I noticed a crack running across the screen and I've no idea how it got there which is even more annoying. Apple want £374 to replace it and online places want between £200-400 to change it. I've not had any local quotes so far however I've found a screen on eBay for £75 and I do have the iFixit kit to do it myself, although having never tried I'm reluctant as I think the glue side of things will be quite tricky.

The other problem is that I've wanted a larger screen for a while since I use the iPad mainly for watching videos and Apple have of course just released the gorgeous looking HDR version.

Apple trade in with an damaged screen is a laughable £115. Music Magpie isn't any better however they do offer £370 I think it was for a fully repaired one.

My thinking is either:

Bit the bullet and trade it in to Apple as is
Or get it repaired as cheaply as possible and then sell it to Music Magpie.

I guess another option is to get it repaired properly and keep it, it's been great and apart from wanting (not needing) a bigger screen I'm more than happy with it.

Thoughts?

I’ve had really bad experiences with third party screen repairers for iPads. Of course that doesn’t mean every third party repair will be rubbish but I imagine only Apple can absolutely guarantee a perfect outcome.

I don’t think you have any particularly satisfactory options and the cheapest will be to put on a screen protector to reduce the chance of further damage, keep the device and pretend the crack isn’t there.

I'll always know it's there though. I wonder how long it's been like it is though, as it's very fine and I really struggle to notice it. I might take my chance with the Apple trade in for full value and if they spot it then take the hit. I'm pretty sure they'll just recycle it anyway.

Well a refurb unit from Apple is £479, for the same model, so spending £374 to replace it is obviously out of the question.

You could just sell it as it is with the crack, and get just as much as you end up with after paying for a 3rd party repair, then trading it in to Music Magpie.

I've noticed exactly the same on my 2018 11" pro. A hairline fracture about 20% of the way down the screen from one side to the other. Very irritating as the unit is rarely off its stand on my desk. I've just ordered a screen protector for it, I imagine that will mask it well enough.
