Hey guys,

I received today a 2017 iPad. It’s cellular and needed ONLY for my golfing habits.

It is running iOS 11!. It tells me to connect to iTunes to update, App Store doesn’t work.

If I take it to Apple will they be able to update this and the App Store, I only need two apps on this..

Or do I send it back and buy a “newer” model?

Any help ASAP would be great, thanks.

I think you need a newer model, Apple don't support it anymore.
I've an even older model (iPad Air 1) and it's just a juke box now. Pretty crap that we can't even get into the App Store, can't even get iPlayer on it now :(

Yeah, I want to spend as little as possible as it will be getting lugged around.

What about a 9th gen (2021) iPad..? Would I have any issues with that? Such as App Store etc..?

Am still using my 2017 samsung Note 8 and tested installing a new app from the play store and had no problem at all

It should support iOS 16.7.10 if it’s the 5th gen iPad. You should still be able to use it if you update it via a computer. Apple would certainly try to restore it for you, but you can try it at home

Sadly it’s become a paper weight. They really should allow you to continue to use it and just say ‘app not supported’
You can, if it's a 2017 iPad it should go up up to iOS 16.

It's not worrying at all. If it's a 2017 iPad then it had at least five years of OS upgrades and there were still security updates being provided this year.

Sending this back. Not happy with condition anyways.

Picked up a iPad mini 5th gen, double the storage and perfect size to go in the golf bag to the range.

Got my sim from an iPad Pro that’s not being used, so the mini now has unlimited “fibre” speed 4/5 G connectivity.

Back from the range today testing the 5th gen iPad mini. Works great, some of the features it runs a tad slow, but nothing that bothers me.

Great little unit for the money..

i suppose its luck of the draw used when it comes to battery life..but this iapd mini is pretty darn good.

done about 1 1/2 hour range session yesterday and when i got home the battery was from a full 100% charge to 40%, much better than expected.

i also have a battery pack for the lightening connector so if it does get low i can plug that in to give it more juice, but in honesty, i dont think it will be needed!
