Have a 4th gen iPad cellular that has been giving me some trouble.

It would get stuck in the boot screen with just the Apple logo and then it would shut down.

Then tried to recover it and I only got the cable & itunes screen which basically said connect to itunes and recover firmware.

Now the screen is completely black with nothing on it.

Have been trying to restore/recover all afternoon but it fails. Searched error and all I can glean is that the USB connection gets disrupted.

Possible a fault on the iPads lighting port perhaps?

I have an appointment books with Apple "genius". What are the chances that the person will be an actual genius and won't just follow the official instructions and just fail and shrug?

The iPad is refurbished so does not have Apple warranty but does have a [web retailer removed] warranty.

Will genius cover this iPad? will they ask/verify instore?

I expect the Apple employee will try their best to help out the "customer", you.

Try a DFU restore with a different computer too.

Yeah, they are helpful I'll give them that.

They attempted a DFU themselves and unsurprisingly it failed so they just gave me a new iPad.
