So Apple want £195 for the cracked screen to be repaired. It's only the glass on top, the LCD is fine.

Ive looked online for an alternative repair service but there are so many! Can anyone recommend an online repair service please that is cheaper the Apple. Ideally want it to be a genuine apple screen replacement or there abouts.

Thanks.

OK thanks, its crazy becasue I can get a Grade A iPhone 11 256GB for £270... that's just £75 more than the glass repair. I don't understand why its so expensive, its not like the digitizer needs replacing too

Is it not all once part glued together. I would be amazed if apply replace the glass alone. Thats one of the reasons apple is so expensive for repairs, they usually replace more than you think would need doing to avoid any further issues that may manifest from whatevern incident caused the damage. That and things like the macbook pro have about 3 parts that are actually replaced.

I smashed one a few years back and took it to one of those, lets say cheaper repair places. My word, i regretted it. The thing would flicker on and off. I took it back to them. Then the button wouldn't work.

It was just a nightmare all round. It's a sore one but I'd bite the bullet and get it repaired by apple.

Unless you know someone you trust or feel confident about replacing the screen yourself. There is plenty of tutorials online, I played around with an old one that the battery was completely dead on, purely for practice and had a nightmare getting the screen off. So be careful if you do go down that route.

Same applies to iPhones IMO

I think I have replaced 3-4 iPhone screens over the years and none of them have been quite right, even the ones that claim to be OEM from apple. Apple literally have dedicated tools for removing screens and disassembling phones now to make sure its done properly without damaging anything. The tolerances on everything are tiny and you really notice the little things on a phone. It used to be the home button would be recessed slightly with 3rd party screen repairs.

I had a screen error on my X lovely green thick line down the centre of the screen and apple replaced it under warranty. I took it into the shop with the appointment and they said they'd need to phone for 4 hours min. Their replacement was flawless, I'd like to know how they do it.

If it was apple or one of their autorised repair partners they will have the correct tools to disassemble it and they will have the genuine apple parts with the correct tolerances and quality of the original screen. Fundamentally its a cost vs quality question. Most people who are looking to buy a replacement screen to fix themselves or who go looking for a cheap 3rd party to replace it have cost in mind so they go for the cheap options.
