I currently have an iPhone 7 Plus, have had it since release day but it's now giving some issues. It's been fixed twice over the years and still works Fine but I'm having issues with speaker volume, calls cutting out sometimes, and volume is very low.

Time to upgrade.

I can't afford/don't want to pay the iPhone 13 price.. so what are peoples thoughts about getting an iPhone 12 in 2022? There several $100 cheaper than a 13, and I don't really need the 13 features. The phone is physically smaller than my 7+, but the screen is actually larger..

Interested in peoples thoughts.

It's definitely more than capable and will be for at least another 4 or 5 years.
Are you looking at buying new? the 13 is only a minor upgrade over the 12 however if starting out I don't see any sense in getting a 12 when the 13 is available. Here in the UK at least the 128gb version of the 12 is £649 with the 13 coming in at £719 so it's hardly 100's more.

I currently have a 12 pro max and for once I've not even been tempted to change.

I used to have this massive sense of fomo but they're just not adding anything exciting to make me want to change.

What will make me change is the alarming rate my battery health is dropping....

I’ve been nannying the crap out of my battery and it’s on 97%. Bought it on release day.

What’s yours?

92% and I've owned it about 9 months now.

When you say nannying what do you mean?

I don't think my usage has been excessive but is there things to avoid that can lower the health?

I almost never let it go below 20%, or above 80%. Sound laborious, but it's fairly easy to achieve when working from home.

Lithium Ion batteries don't like being too flat or too full for too long, or hot. Heat kills them quickly.

I tend to not let the battery fully die but it's the above 80% that would be a challenge as I charge overnight.

I thought apple had something built in to try and help though (can't think what it's called).

I'm certain my other iphones never dropped 8% in the same space of time. I do have apple care so could get the phone checked.

It'll charge to 80% overnight and hold it there. Before you wake up it'll charge to 100% and try to time it to coincide with you waking up.

I saw a MKBHD video the other day and his iPhone 13 Max had degraded more in 5 months than mine has in ~18, so I think my strategy is paying off.

I wonder what Apple would consider valid to replace a battery. I feel my battery health degrading is unreasonable in that space of time but would they?

I might get in touch with them to see what they say.

I am still using my launch week XS Max. I have no urge to upgrade just yet. Battery still lasts a day with moderate use and I have no issues with any lag or performance. I would imagine a 12 will last you several years!

I have a an iPad Pro with the 120hz screen and that's the only feature that I would like to have as its fantastic

They do have a policy however I can’t recall the specific figures - it might be something like up to 20% in the first year but certainly don’t quote me on that.

The XR is still overkill for me in 2022 and i could even happily use a 6S.

It all depends on the individual and what they expect it to do.

The way things are going I might hit that target. I'm sure the last time I checked my battery health was at 92% just checked and it's at 89%.

This is the section on the Apple UK website. I’m not sure of the ins and outs with regards warranty and/or Apple Care but it’s a starting point.

I had my 12 from November 2020 until a couple of weeks ago and it had just ticked over to 94% - I was impressed with that.

Mines now on 92% had it exactly twelve months. Charge every night if I’m working and every other day when I’m off. Use the 20w iPad Pro charging brick.
Not really fussed I upgrade on every even number release. So happy till the 14 pro releases.
