iPhone 13 optimised battery charging not working?

Having recently got myself an Apple Watch SE I bought a MagSafe Duo Charger so that I could charge both devices overnight on my bed side table.

Problem is the Optimised Battery Charging doesn’t seem to be working. I lay seems to charge to 100% straight away, and sit there from 2am until I get up. It’s supposed to wait at 80% until it “knows” I need the full charge right.. Why it can’t just look at the fact I have a Sleep Focus on and my alarm set for 7am I do not know :o

Anyone had any joy with this? I’ve made sure the location settings are on as Googled. I can see my maximum battery capacity has already dropped from 98 to 96% so I fear overnight charging is wrecking my battery already lol..

The apple series 6 watch I bought my niece for Christmas about 16 months ago has only been used for a few months and the rest of the time it been sitting left on charge 24/7 and the battery capacity is still saying it 100%.. when I got her to check it about a week ago.

Also I charge my iphone 14 pro max over night every night and that is also still at 100% battery capacity…

And both these devices are charging to a 100% charge

Yep got those on. I’ll give it a couple of weeks I guess!
Update. Last night seemed to work as intended. Charged briefly at midnight to 80% (I think, hard to see exactly) and then kicked in again at what looks to be 4am. Unfortunately that means it got to 100% at 5am whereas my alarm wasn't set until 7am. So not quite there yet, but an improvement.

I still don't know why it can't just look at your alarm

I don’t charge my phone overnight any more but when I did, I’d often glance at it in the night and see it was on hold with an estimated charge completion time showing as the same as my daily alarm.

Never had any alarms set on it so i have no idea on what it goes by  Maybe it something to do with the time i normally take it off charge in the morning (around 6am.... +/- 20 minutes )

That’s weird, mine never shows that on lock screen when I plug it in for the night. Even though optimised charging seems to be working now.

Another question, will it work if I have location services off? I’ll do a test tonight but I’m getting so much battery drain from location services it’s just not worth it. Even though I’ve been through and turned it off for loads of apps and turned ‘precise’ location off for most. Google app seems to be a big culprit bizarrely (might not be related to location services)

That message doesn't show when you plug it in, it appears when it reaches the charge level at which it's going to hold so if you go to bed, plug it in and go to sleep, you'll never see that message because by the time you wake up, it will have completed the charge.

Works flawlessly on my 14 Pro with a Magsafe Duo charger. Takes around a week to kick in but it's worked just fine ever since. It charges to full in time for my 7am alarm going off.
