According to Apple the 2.1 software is now out for the iPhone.

Surprised there's no thread on 2.1 already, here's the info:

iPhone version 2.1 contains many bug fixes and improvements, including the following:
• decrease in call set-up failures and call drops
• significantly improved battery life for most users
• dramatically reduced time to backup to iTunes
• improved email reliability, notably fetching email from POP and Exchange accounts
• faster installation of 3rd party applications
• fixed bugs causing hangs and crashes if you have lots of 3rd party applications
• improved performance in text messaging
• faster loading and searching of contacts
• improved accuracy of the 3G signal strength display
• repeat alert up to two additional times for incoming text messages
• option to wipe data after ten failed passcode attempts
• Genius playlist creation

GAHHH 2nd time in a row its timed out at the end of the download. :(
I really hope this update doesn't screw up and require me to restore like the last 2..
 
3rd time mine has timed out downloading, I'm getting a bit annoyed here.. is there a way to manually download it?

Well if anyone has trouble downloading from iTunes, I just downloaded the .ipsw directly and the update worked fine.
 
Just a update lad's iTunes 8.0 has had a soft Re-release.

The new version specifically addresses a Blue Screen error when connecting an iPod to a Windows Vista PC as detailed in this Support Article.

The old iTunes 8.0 file size was 64.6mb the new file is 64mb;):cool:

My vista 64 machine keeps blue screening every now and then with either my iPod touch plugged in or itunes open, I'm guessing its the iPod plugged in :-(
I'm sure this will be fun to solve :/
