iPhone 2.2 download without iTunes?

I've got some severe internet issues at the minute and my connection keeps timing out while trying to DL the 2.2 firmware for my 3G iPod.

Is there any way to download it so that it doesn't time out and start from the beginning all over again?

Finally got that downloaded, now what do I do with it lol? I tried double clicking it and it didn't do anything... How do i install it?

Will it delete all my contacts and applications from my iPhone?

Either Shift-click (PC) or Alt/Option-click (Mac) on the upgrade button in iTunes when the phone is plugged in. Locate the file and let it do its magic.

If you click upgrade it will leave your data and apps intact.

You're an absolute legend - you've saved my bacon! My battery life has been pants so hopefully this'll help some. It's Alt-click rather than command in case anyone else needs to do this.
