iPhone 2G: No sound in calls

My iPhone 2G has just broke. I think the internal speaker has died as calls still work on the loud speaker.

Now I bought the phone when they dropped the price to £169 (not sure exactly when that was) but I don't think it's 12 months. I am using it with a O2 PAYG simcard. Is it still covered under warranty or will I have to buy a new one as I am not on the original iPhone contract.

Don't be so sure that it's broken.

I had exactly the same thing where I couldn't hear any sound through the internal speaker but the loud speaker was fine.

It turned out that it thought the headphones were still plugged in, so I plugged them in again and unplugged them gently (unlike the usual just whipping them out) and it worked fine again.

Try it.

Yup, same thing happened on mine too. Give it a blast with some compressed air if the above doesn't work. All manner of crap builds up in there over time.
