Has anybody purchased an iphone3 (g/gs) instead of an iphone 4 and why?

As far as I can see the difference in price doesn't seem like enough to not buy an iphone, unless there's some reason why an iphone 3 may be preferred over an iphone 4?

Definitely don't buy a 3G now. It missed out on the more useful features of iOS 4, like multitasking, and the features it does have bring it to its knees.

The 3GS is still a pretty competent phone. The hardware isn't dramatically slower than the 4. But as you say, the price difference isn't that great. Plus the iP4 has the amazing new screen - which is probably worth the upgrade alone - as well as a much better camera. And Apple is likely to support it for a year or so longer.

think i may get one - - tesco seem to have some in stock now and that looks to be the best deal, either the £349 + 20pm or the 229 and 35 per month deal for 12 mths.

Would definitely go for the iphone4...newer better screen, slightly faster and looks nicer imo.

seriously outdated screen resolution would be the main reason. infact its why i never bought one last year so theres no chance id put up with it now

for iphone 3gs price you can do much better with android

I stuck with my 3GS in the end, would have liked the better camera and flash but not enough to upgrade. The screen is better but didn't blow me away.

I was expecting the higher resolution to show more on screen, but it doesn't. I didn't get to test Safari on the iPhone 4 but the main reason I wanted the higher res screen was that they'd fit more on the screen, it would make web browsing much nicer. From what I saw everything fits the screen the same, it just looks somewhat sharper...whoop.

My dad has a 3G though. Avoid like the plague, dog slow they are.
