I have a Alpine Full Speed Head unit, where i cna control everything from the headunit.

My old MK1 iPhone worked 100%, New one i can control it.

But on the screen it says, cannot charge with this accessory.

Anyone else got this?

Cheers

When you installed the Alpine headunit did you have to run a set of power wires for the IPOD charging function?

I know they haven't changed the pin configuration because i can still charge and use my iPhone with my Pioneer Avic-X1BT Sat Nav System, + oldler apple USB leads still work :)

I've read that Apple have introduced accessory authentication into newer devices- basically if the accessory manufacturer hasn't bought the corresponding authentication chip from apple and incorporated it into the device, it won't work. It's kind of pulled the rug out from the third party companies..... I'm not sure if it applies to charging devices (knowing Apple it wouldn't surprise me) but if so, it's highly probable that Alpine haven't included the chip.

They have changed the pin configuration.
iPods used to support 2 methods of charging. Firewire power and USB power. Apple stated 3 years ago that they were dropping support for Firewire and Firewire power and the iPhone 3G is the first device that has done so.
Most 3rd party manufacturers didn't bother to change their charging circuits and as such, we have the problem you are facing. My Lexus iPod system has the same issue.

Rumour has it that Apple will be bringing out a small dongle which switches the power connections around for older devices.

Ahh, seems logical to me i must be lucky then since i only use USB and my car setup must be new enough :)

Cheers for that info..Lets hope a new cable from Alpine will sort it.

Its the newer system BTW. Just a straight cable to the headunit and not one with a external box.
