Has anyone here got any experience buying this part from the bay? I have a couple of questions...

Which seller did you use? How quick was postage? Did it come with a new "rubber seal" around the phone edge?

Thanks

Nope? No-one has replaced their screen on here? Never mind then. I've ordered one now anyway.

Replaced my 3GS screen, not sure if the process is any different from a 3G.

Can't remember where I ordered the screen pack but it one of the first couple google results.

Found the process of replacing the screen pretty straight forward, only trickly bit was removing the LCD screen from the front panel without cracking the LCD... So I guess just be extra careful and do it slowly.

There was no replacement rubber seal which had to be removed but isn't all that noticeable without it.

Which part of the phone is actually damaged and which kits are you looking at? The rubber seal is the part which also holds the earpiece and home button etc.

I've ordered the whole display assembly, which is the whole front. Glass, Digitiser, Earpiece, Home button, New LCD screen etc... It should be a case of opening it up, undo-ing the ribbon cables, taking out my old lot out and putting the new one in.

I actually replaced just the glass before this, and snagged the earpiece cable / earpiece stopped working. Since then I've managed to screw the LCD up and it just doesn't turn on. The phone makes a noise when you plug it into the computer, however.

I was just wondering if I got a new rubber seal with the new assembly. I've not ordered from iFixit, but an ebay seller. Much cheaper for anyone else looking to do this. Was after experience with buyers really. The prices seem to range from £40 - £55 for what I wanted.

Here's hoping I can resurrect my 3G for the girlfriend. :D

Oh of course. Like I say it's already been open a fair bit, when I replaced just the glass off my existing display assembly. Which by the way I really wouldn't recommend. For the price I'd just replace the whole lot.

When I did mine, I didn't realise I could have gotten a whole display assembly from the bay for a reasonable price!
