now my friend might just be full of BS or does the iphone 3g have a completely different dock to all other ipods?

quick reply would be good. ta.

The connector on the bottom of the 3G iPhone is the same as the previous model. The dock adaptor isn't the same, the new one is number 15 and it doesn't have an open front (I'm looking at one right now).

It can go in the normal Universal Dock with the right adapter, the dock it actually comes with is different though. The first iPhone's dock is different as well, but again, that'll go in a Universal dock too with the right adapter. They're £7 for three I think. I have no idea why they sell them in threes either, so don't ask!

Tbh I'd get the universal dock+adaptor over the pathetic 3G one. I've got both docks and cannot believe how rubbish the 3G one is. If you want a pic of both side by side just say so.

My 3G iPhone didn't come with a dock adapter, should it have done? It's not listed on the box.

Guy at work bought the pack of three 3G adapters for the Universal Dock for £6 so I gave him £2 for one of them. Seemed fair to me.

My 3G never came with an adaptor either and I distinctly remember that there were no 3G Universal adaptors when the 3G first launched because I did check the apple store. They arrived afterwards when most including yours truly splashed out for an inferior 3G dock.

Ahh right, yes I see - The actual 3g dock, not the 3g dock adapter for the universal. Yes, that looks rubbish.

It would help if I hadn't left the Touch in the office yesterday but I did :/
As you can see, the Universal Dock on the left has a larger footprint so your device won't topple over or wobble on a shaky table.

The 3G dock whoever has no solid forward base support so if you tap the 3G phone from behind, the dock just leaps forwards but is restrained by the dock cable. It smacks of shoddy designwork imo.
