i want to use my own headphones with my iphone 3g, but still want the answer calls, music control of the headphones supplied with the iphone. I see quite a few adapters that do this but i was wondering if anyone here knows which one is the best or if it even makes a difference which ever one i go for?

Much the same no matter what you get I suspect, I have a griffin one which works but I hardly use it - you want to clip it somewhere the microphone is handy but that leaves the entire earphone cable to stash somewhere between the adaptor and your ears - bit of a mess really. Better getting one of the decent earphones with built in controls you can get now.

Shure make one as well which I'd trust to be all right if you really must though.

I've got the Shure one but the cable is really long. Add that to the length of your headphone cable and you just have loads of cable everywhere :(

i have the shure one with shure headphones so the cable length isn't an issue as shure headphones have a short cable

however, the actual mcirophone housing is terribly clunky compared to the one that comes with the iphone

its serves its purpose, but could be so much better in my opinion.

Are there any other decent adapters out there? Heard the Griffin is poorly built and the Shure with my EX90XLs will be 2m+ long :p

ps3ud0

I have the apple in-ear headphones which have the mic and control. It is far better than the stock ones. However I do recommend you get the sennheiser as the bass on these small earphones are appalling. Even compared to the aged Sony EX90. The detail is nice.. but yeah that sennheiser looks like the best bet.

I'll add that I have some of the Sennheiser MM50 headphones and mine have just gone wrong as well, just like people on the reviews on that Apple link. :( Seems the connection into the jack is a major weak point on them.

I got mine from eBay and the seller is no longer a registered user. :/
