Hi guys,
Quick question after hours of trying to to understand the whole 'Iphone hackers story so far' on the web to find an answer.

I want to install vnsea on my iphone (3G, Jailbroken, v2.1 with installer and cydia) It's a VNC client for the iphone.

However, all the vnsea website offers is a .pxl file. Which I understand is an open source packaging format for the Iphone. All the references I have found online talk about installing these to the iphone with Ibrickr, but the Ibrickr website says it should not be used with newer Iphone softwares (like v2.1)

The second thing I tried was to find a cydia repo with it in, but I cannot find one (and also, how messed up are Iphone repo websites, what's wrong with a page showing all packages on the repo plus the repo url, or a nice webpage that lists them all :P)

Can someone please help me with either of these questions that would lead to the installation of vnsea.

Thanks in advance.

Can use Open SSH? Can use Cyberduck to access the phone and move the file?

Cydia is rubbish. So I wouldn't bother with that route!

cheers for the heads up on cydia.

Yeah I could use ssh/scp to move the file to the phone, but then what? i'm guessing the phone won't just notice the file and install it?

Thanks,
TrX

Thanks for the link,
Looked down that route before, it dosnt seem to be in the default repo's (guess it used to be) and I cant find a repo that it's in (same issue as with the cydia repos, no decent listings etc) and so that's why I thaught the manual package idea may be a winner.

EDIT: isn't VNsea under Network in Installer?

Nope, first place I looked after jailbreaking, Sources I have in installer are:

bigboss apps
modmyiphone
rip dev
iphone-notes.de
ispazio official

Will try those other urls too, see what happens.
Thanks,

EDIT: I get, "Error: unable to decode source at http://apptap.thebigboss.org/repofiles/installer4/"
trying cydia repo now

EDIT2: On cydia I get "Did not Find Repository - The indicated repo could not be found etc etc"

Has been the same story with every repo I have tried to add today, it's like they are all stale old repo's that have died etc. My internet connection on the iphone is fine (have tried both wifi + 3g) :S

If not you will have to SSH this:

http://mac.softpedia.com/progDownload/VNsea-Download-29222.html

into the /Applications file and set permission to 755 on everything in the file as well as the file itself.

Done, Copied the .pxl file to /applications and rebooted for good measure.

The other things in /applications looked like they were in a different format (one subdirectory per app) so I hope this works.

Thanks for the continued help on this btw.

EDIT: Still no luck, the .pxl file has just sat in the folder accross the reboot, no new icons on panel and no new packages appeared in cydia (checked just incase)
Is there something else I need to do to complete the manual install?

Thanks

Figured it out after viewing the links, turns out this weird package format is actually just renamed ZIP format. Changed from .pxl to .zip, and it opened.
Extracted the contents and in there was a folder that had the same format as all the other folders in /Applications (name.app)

Copied + chmoded, however even after restarting nothing appered, yet today when i installed something from cydia... it appeared (maybe cydia does an 'app folder refresh' as part of it's install process or something).

It still dosnt work (opens the vnsea splash screen and then exits :P) but at least can now installed packages.

Thanks for all the info and help last night.

Cheers,
