The cynical would say so that people have to upgrade from their 3Gs. A lot of people see this as them tacitly stopping support for the 3G.

The secret is to turn off all the spotlight search featues in Settings then clear the internet cache and do a reboot.

Urg... this sounded great and I was in the middle of doing the first reboot and my iPhone decided to hang on the Apple logo. Restore ahoy

Having restored it, it now did exactly the same thing again on a hard reset! Restore number 2 ahoy .

Tried that, made absolutely no difference for me.

It's odd how much performance seems to vary between users, but it is perhaps rather subjective.

Just restored mine after some hastle getting it back to IOS3. NEed to get it jailbroken now to get back some other features.

Edit. This is so much faster compared to the iOS4
