Right,

I thought it was time for a 3G jailbreak thread as I cant find much info on the 3G on the interwebs, plenty of guides but no FAQ's for the 3G.

A guide and all the files required etc can be found here:

http://ipodtouched.net/?page_id=286

I just have a few questions that you clever lot may be able to answer.

1.When the guide says:

"Step 5: Select Install Cydia and YouTube activation fix (if you have a legit contract with your iPhone carrier (like AT&T)DO NOT SELECT the YouTube activation fix)"

Does that apply to O2 also? Therefore if you have a valid contract with O2 "DO NOT SELECT the YouTube activation fix"

ANSWER: Do Not select the YouTube Activation Fix!

2. If the process cocks up can you just restore you iPhone through iTunes?

3. Will I lose all my contacts? It would be the 3rd time I have had to type them all in .

I know this may seem a bit over cautious but I really dont want to break my 3 week old phone and have to pay a £45 contract for another 17 months.

Thanks in advance.

The 3G iPhone isn't unlocked yet, your stuck for now.

It's not unlocked, but it is jailbroken.

I've got a legit contract and I haven't selected any YouTube fix.. I didn't even notice it as an option to be honest.

If the process cocks up you can restore in iTunes just fine, it's almost impossible to brick an iPhone (but that's not a challenge!)

If you sync your contacts with your machine it will just put them back on when it's finished upgrading. Or the other alternative is to backup the phone with iTunes, then choose the backup to restore from once the phone has the jailbroken firmware on. I've used both methods just fine.

The whole thing takes about 10minutes and is about as idiot proof as you can get.. it's really not a big deal.

Cheers! :D

Just did it and all went well apart from I lost all my contacts and text messages mainly because I was being a fool and selected to sync as a new iPhone because I though that it would restore the old firmware.

Oh well, entered all my contacts in again, again lol.

Any tips on how to put files on your iPhone without using iTunes for use with an app from Cydia? I tried Win SCP and got nowhere. :(
