Hi guys,

I had jailbroke my phone. I removed the jailbreak when I had to restore after my phone began to hang when sending texts, and then eventually wouldn't turn back on. I had to restore the iphone.

Sometimes when I go to sync itunes just gives me the error message that the device cannot be read or is corrupt and needs to be restored. I have tried to restore in iTunes but it seems to fail.

The phone is in recovery mode. However when turning on it takes a good 5 minutes or so to present me with the itunes and usb cable screen. When I do connect it to itunes the restore fails and my computer no longer see's the phone.

Any ideas or points in the right direction would be great!

Thanks

Benny C

EDIT: Using the other USB port seems to have worked :)

Was going to mention something along the USB port lines, same happened to my touch.
It was solved by pulling the cable out and then back into the USB port and voila!

Strange things these PCs

1,update itunes
2, download quickpwn to put your iphone in dfu mode
3, re-install in i-tunes
4, job-done
5, jailbreak as normal

Apparently its not fixed!

As I went to sync earlier it put itself into recovery mode.

I have tried to restore but it just kept hanging once the status bar on the iphone reached full. I left it for about 2 hours while I went to the gym.

Is there anyway to completely wipe the firmware and download and install a new one and drivers etc etc?

Any other suggestions would be great thanks.

recovery mode wont do it

1, install lastest i-tunes
2, installl latest quickpwn
3, download your ipsw for the your iphone( but on desktop )

now try

connect phone to i tunes, dont restore....... use update button

if works... then use quickpwn to jailbreak done..

if does not work try this

1,run i tunes
2, connect the iphone using different usb port than u just used
3, hold shirt or cltr button and the restore button then pick your ipsw which you put on your desktop
4, it should re-install ur iphone
5. the quickpwn etc etc

if this does not work put your iphone in dfu mode

hold power button down 4 5 seconds
then press the home button for 10 seconds, still holding the power button
then release the power button
but still holding the home button for 30 seconds
your computer will beep to pick up ur iphone

your iphone is now in dfu mode... now try the above

i think your doing this in revcovery mode

i think you need dfu mode

try it........ let me know how you get on

Thanks I'll give this a go.

I can only 'restore' the 'check for update' button is greyed out and unaccessable.

I'll let you know how I get on, thanks for your suggestions.

EDIT: I am not wanting to jailbreak again for the record.

arggh, not as good as I thought.

The other day when trying to sync, some sort of error occured half way through and the phone came up with the itunes logo and usb cable. The error read something like unable to read the disk. Gave the iphone a few knocks, it rebooted and worked and synced fine. (Hard drive issue?)

Tried to sync today and its stuck in recovery mode. When I restore the progress bar under the apple logo reaches full and it just hangs here with itunes saying 'Waiting for iPhone'. Went to the gym and returned 2 hours later and still stuck there.

The first few times when restoring just after the progress bar on the phone starts to fill, the screen flashes in the same sort of way when you switch a CRT tv off, like its shorted out or something.

I think ive managed to put it into DFU mode, I had the screen go white briefly before the restore began. I've tried both usb sockets, and its the only external device connected to my laptop atm.

I've downloaded iBrickr. Is it possible to load a generic firmware onto my iphone? Or should I just take it back to carphone warehouse and send it off to apple?

Bare in mind this phone has been dropped into a pitcher of alcohol. The water damage sensor is a feint pink, and only half of it, so hoping to pass that off as a bit of moisture or spit when i've blown in the jack. Also been jailbroken but not for a while.

Any help would be great

Regards

Benny C

Edit: Now it works :S back to carphone warehouse tomorrow.

Lol, Hmmm anyone see mabye even possibly why this iPhone is playing up :P

I gotta get quote of the month for this one ;)

I would just expect it to play up pritty soon after having been so called 'water damaged', not 2 months after.

When syncing just now, the iPhone rebooted itself, and I was again faced with the itunes logo and USB cable.

Blerghhh into town I go.
