Hi,

Trying to email configure 'mail' so I can recieve and read emails from free ISP Tesco account.

But when putting in the server information I run into problems. 'webmail.tesco.net' are the send/receive server details. Username 'user.name'. Password - This is already filled in.

I found these details through google. Are they incorrect, may that be the reason this doesn't want to work?

Any help would be great

Thanks

BennyC

Webmail sounds like the server where you'd access it via a browser, so might not be what you want. See if they mention IMAP or POP3 access.

it is.

Is that not compatible on the iPhone then? or will I need a special app? or is there a 3rd party app for when I jailbreak?

Best place to check for any email system is the service providers website. 1 minute of looking found me the details, but I can't link to it because its a competitor. I can say though that the POP3 and SMTP servers are both mail.tesco.net

Another advantage is setting it up through Outlook/whatever and then it'll configure it for you :)

No, you just need the proper addresses for SMTP/POP3/IMAP as listed above (mail.tesco.net)

Bang them into Mail.app and Robert's your Dad's brother.

Just use the O2 SMTP server (smtp.o2.co.uk) for the outgoing, I have my Uni webmail and my BT account using it, there is no reason you need to use the one from your mail provider.

The O2 smtp server requires authentication, to find out your username login to your iPhone account on the O2 website and click on "webmail". Take a note of your email address (it might be randomly assigned such as your name followed by some digits). Your username for the smtp server will be '[email protected]' and the password will be the one you use to login to the the O2 site.

Thanks RobH. Using the o2 webmail on my iPhone now works :) However i can send emails fine, but recieveing them in the inbox doesn't. I get a message 'Cannot Get Mail, the username or password for ************@o2.co.uk is incorrect. But its working fine for retrieving a list of sent messages.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Edit: Appears to have just recieved them :S nevermind

Second Edit: Is it possible to email to a mobile number, or contacts? for example to send a friend a photo to their phone?
