Hey all,

Today the Wi-Fi on my launch-day iPhone 3G 16GB has stopped working out of the blue. I wasn't using it while it broke, I just noticed that I couldn't connect to the local network after I came back from sunday lunch with the mrs.

  1. I've restarted the phone
  2. Reset network settings
  3. Rebooted the Time Capsule (access point)
  4. Restored phone to 3.0 in iTunes

... but it still won't connect to my local network, or that of my parent's.

I have not dropped the phone, or made any modifications

Now, I read online that Apple will swap handsets with this problem but the handset it out of the 1 year warranty..

I don't have a local Apple store, so I will have to call them tomorrow but I was just wondering does anyone have any ideas?

To add.. all other devices connect to the Time Capsule without issue (WPA2 encryption).

Did you restore or a dfu restore?

Regular restore, will do DFU tomorrow as a last resort.

Have you tried guest network, or taking out the security altogether?

Does the icon appear or does it stay 3G?

My Time Capsule is the older model without the guest network feature. 3G icon shows, but can't even connect to Wi-Fi so symbol won't appear anyway.

Note: if I go to Settings>Network it will only detect the network 1/3 times, despite standing next to the Time Capsule :(

Called Apple this morning.

Spoke to a friendly Irish gentleman who arranged for a repair :)

@ Westyfield2.. you're right.. I will have this done under warranty.

Here's hoping they can't fix the phone and give me a 3G..

Dont forget to do a DFU restore if you are sending it to apple and have done anything to it you shouldn't have done matey :)

It hasn't been tweaked in that sense ;)

If they do give me a refurb 3G then I might just sell it and buy a PAYG 3G.

I'll tell the mrs that they couldn't fix it..
