iPhone 3Gs O2 Petition!

Apple presentations are so incredibly smug, they package all the new features as if they were the first ones to come up with it, it is done in such a clever way that people believe it. Apple are the Gods of marketing but not hardware!

The way this thread has degenerated into a general argument about the iPhone shows why iPhone threads are kept to the Apple sub-forum usually. :p

Phones with physical keyboards = fail imo

PMSL:p...i think you will find most people prefer a physical keyboard over a touchscreen keyboard...i have a BB Bold and its best device for typing out emails and texts...i also have the HTC Magic and i loathe texting on it or emailing on it but for internet browsing and playing games its the best device ive used and thats including the iphone...ive used one pretty extensively and i prefer the Magic plus i have the ipod touch so got the best of both worlds really.

I have a Bold and i love it to bits...awesome device and even after using an iphone i still prefer the Bold...the only good thing about the iphone for me was the internet browsing as no phone up until my HTC Magic aka Android phone has come close even my Bold cant come close. BUT the Magic is just as good if not any better than the iphone...the touchscreen is sublime...very responsive like the iphone...internet browsing is a joy to use...again so similar to the iphone.

As much as i love my BB Bold..the future is definitely Android and i think Apple are ****ing their pants because in my eye its as good as the iphone...apologies to the apple fanboi's...i like the iphone but i wont be digging into my pocket to get one as they are stupidly priced...O2 are a joke charging the utterly stupid prices for them but thats their perogative.

Seriously if someone asked me whether they should get an iphone or the Magic...id tell them save your pennies and get the Magic...its just as good if not better than the iphone imho.

I would love a handset built like the Bold (with touch screen ofc) running android, it would rock.

Same here but im waiting with anticipation for the Bold with a touchscreen and physical keyboard...that would seriously rock.

Would be cool tho to see Android running on a Bold..sadly i dont think it will ever be possible though. Mind you the BB OS is pretty customisable ie you can put different themes on them without having to hack the phone.

One does wonder how popular Android will become on other devices and if we will see it on non smartphone hardware.

Ill have to check out the Magic. Looking forward to a non HTC phone with Android actually, ie a phone with better build/camera/flash (and a numeric keyboard actually). Id fill my boots then.

Android doesn't come close to even regular iPhone 3g. The interface is laggy and slow in comparison to iPhone (or even iPod touch), the task and work flow is illogical and most stuff it does is form over substance most of the time. It's in fact one of the worst smart phones I had a chance to play with. Phone has to be quick and smooth, it will be used, most of the time, to dial and navigate to things on the run. So has to do common tasks in seconds. Then it has to be supported by other stuff. One of the silliest elements creating that technological abyss between iphone and any windows smart phones for example is the fact that windows mobile phones, should, in theory fit main OS like a glove. For media, for browsing, for connectivity, for auto mounting, for apps. And yet instead it is still doing some weird syncing which feel like last century palm pilot affair and it completely misses the point of having small computer device built into phone, not a phone function built into ackward, backwards PDA.

iPhone pricing is insane. There is nothing in a phone that would be worth a pricetag of a laptop, no matter how slick it is. You would have to jump on your head to spend half a grand on a phone. No two ways about it. And I also blame all iphone users for crime against phone market - you made the greedy two year contracts happen. The market almost had providers down to 6 month contracts and fantastic phones thrown in for free to twenty quid tariffs. Then iphone arrived and your inability to do maths on most basic levels allowed O2 to reboot the whole market into insanely long contracts, with stupidly small amount of minutes for crazy money and stop offering any incentives at all, across their whole range. So, in many ways, the iPhone spoiled it for everyone.

But as far as phone with walkman and some smart functions goes - nothing in the same market comes close to the interface, design and user friendliness of iPhone. There is not even point in deliberating. Only a person that haven't used it for long enough wouldn't agree.

Skyfall - not tried an Android yet, I have high hopes for it but from what I've seen and heard it still is a little laggy :(
I don't have an iphone - I've always tried to be like 'pah, this phone can offer way more than the iphone, I'm not following with the other sheep etc'. Latest phone I have is the HTC Touch Pro - not that impressed with it at all if I admit :( Phone itself is probably quite good, but it runs Winmo so therefore it's pretty awful. Will never buy a phone that has Winmo again. HTC Magic is not out over here yet (the HTC phones are really delayed over here which sucks).
I just think the next phone I get, I'll bite the bullet and get a dam iphone - then everything will run smoothly and actually work.
It may not be as techy as some phones but it doesn't fail as hard as all the others - it just works (hopefully :D)

Sure, any windows mobile phone (at least with current OS's available), is going to be worse than anything custom made, regardless of hardware. Every now and then it gets worse - I still have nightmares about Orange SPV C500. Can't think of a single thing that device would do right. Not even display time.

So yes, Android might be better than winmo. But HTC just feels slow and overwhelmed all the time. Even if you don't feel your screen scrolling is lagged and slow compared to iPhone/iPod touch (and it is) - what about that lag in redraw of apps pull up thing, or when you're browsing for few minutes then press home. You get between four to eight second lag. And it's the same with image viewer, you go through you folders, check this, check that, want to close it. Blank stare. If it wasn't for modern looks you would start expecting cogs turning inside. And then there is that odd feeling the more you use application or game the slower and laggier exiting it becomes like it was leaking badly into memory. What is it doing? What's with the 16 bit tasking? What is the problem? Memory? Cycles for new task? Prioritize switching, redraw screen, take the app off the screen and close it in the background. Device should always do what it's supposed to - you pressed the button, you expect something to occur. I don't need to know what it's doing with the crap that was on the screen previously. If that app needs something from me while it's closing let the icon blink or something. As long as pressing button has immediate effect.

Again I don't know which handset you were using but apps usually start in a second or two and going back to the home screen is usually instant. I don't have any of these slowing down problems you seem to have experienced.

If you really want I can show you :)

I tend to suffer from the odd lag but thats due to some apps i have running that are pretty badly coded tbqh...vanilla wise my Magic is as quick as the iphone. Hell my ipod touch lags sometimes with the apps i have.

Still Android over iphone any day of the week.

Surely the iphone can do more than one app at once? What if you wanted to browse the web whilst using MSN?

Your stuck...you cant do 2 things at once on an iphone. If thats what you want to do then your better off with a phone which can do 2 or more things at once.

The iphone multitasks, but only apple applications, any app not made by apple does not have permission to multitask.
