Iphone 3GS Outer Screen Casing Repair

Hi All,

I had cracked the screen of my Iphone 3gs, so bought a home repair kit from ebay, i got through most of it okay, but when it came to removing the cracked glass from the casing, the number 3 connector tape ripped (hope that makes sense).

Does anyone know what this outer casing part is called and what i need to fix it?

i think thats the digitiser for the touch screen

There are some digitiser screen casings on ebay, probly is that, thanks for your help.

I don't know if it is is the digitiser, i think its the metal rim that the digitiser screws into if that makes sense?

I think connector 3 is for the speaker/proximity sensor, is it just the cable that is damaged? The connector on the phone's LCD is OK? If so then the following ebay items may be of use:

How easy is it to take the front glass of the 3GS?

The reason I ask is because have a few bits of dust/carp that have got under the glass and I would like to remove them if possible.

I've done it around 30-40 times through repairing them. It's much easier when the glass is in 1 piece

. 2 screws, and then (very gently) pull the glass up using the correct tools (mini suction cup will do it). Then carfully disconnect the 2 push on cables, release the catch on cable 3 and then it pulls out. Remove 6-7 screws form the screen/digitiser assembly and then carefully removed the LCD and clean the inner glass and LCD, re-assemble and you're done!

I don't suppose you have a guide/tutorial you could pass on?

My glass is in one piece just so you know!

Did my 1st iPhone 4 Display replacement today, with practice it will be come easy but it takes at least 2/3 times longer and much more complex than the 3G/s. Knockoff part quality was about 90% there and would go unnoticed to the majority of people.

Top man. That's just what I was looking for.

Only problem is I don't have a screw driver small enough to turn the screws.
