Iphone 3gs problem!

So my bosses grand child said he tried to update my bosses iphone 3gs to the latest version on itunes, and during the process it apparently failed and now its stuck on please connect to itunes recovery mode thing. I have tried doing the update again through itunes, it seems to get all the way through and fails at the last minute and its back on recover mode.

Heres what i have tried.

Tinyumbrella recover loop fix - Did not work.
Greenp0ison, said files on the phone were missing and could not continue Plist, or something.

Restore through i tunes while phone in dfu mode, still not working.

Anyone had similar problems or know how to get the phone back up and running?

my theory is, he tried to jailbreak the phone and messed it up somehow.

Got any older SHSH blobbs, could you make up an older ipsw and put it back to a known working software?

I have nothing, all i was told was an update was tried, it failed, and the phone seems to be bricked! No other info other then that im afraid is it a trip to apple time?

Does tiny umbrella bring up the ipsw details when you plug in? Tried pwnd dfu mode and pushing a selected ipsw through with itunes?

Hi yes i believe it did give ipsw info, it states the one it was upgraded to, 6.1. or something along those lines, dont have the phone with me, i tried pwnd dfu and itunes but no joy
