iPhone 3GS to iPhone 4 backup data/settings

Ok so I now have a iPhone 4 and want to migrate all my settings/apps/music etc etc, over to the iPhone 4.

Now I recall that whenever you attach a new iPhone type device a prompt would come in iTunes requesting if you want to restore a previous backup.

Would such a iPhone 3GS backup work on an iPhone 4? Is there any other way? Or am I going to have to do everything manually?

Yes the previous backup will work just fine. When I installed mine from a lowly 3G, it booted up almost as if it was the same phone, I think the only thing was the layout of the apps wasn't the same, which was no big deal really.

Do you know if it copies things like firmware or is just purely settings? (my concern is that I would have a 3GS firmware on a 4? Not sure if that makes sense :p)
