Iphone 3GS

Hi all just a quick question regarding my Iphone 3GS, well my old Iphone anyway.
The beginning of this year i had to get my 3GS replaced due to a faulty screen. Anyway got a new one and then bought an Iphone 4. Now with the replacement coming from Apple would this phone not be unlocked? I tried an O2 sim card in and it would not work, I thought if you got a phone from Apple it was unlocked?

Im guessing if i wanted to use another sim i would need to jailbreak it now??

If it was a contract phone with O2, call them up and they will unlock it free. I did this with my 3G about 4 months after getting the iPhone 4. Simples

No sorry i was with orange but just tried another sim, only one i had to hand was an O2 sim.

Then I guess it's locked. You would need to call the providor to unlock it who the phone was purchased from originally.

Ahh right ok no worries, guess i will let the other half use it seeing as she is still with Orange.
