iPhone 4 crackling noise when on call

On Friday I had no issues at all with the phone but in the evening when I made a call all I hear is just crackling and breaking up on every single phone call I make. Instead of ringing it just makes this crackling sound and then when someone picks up it just continues making it virtually impossible to use as a phone.

I didn't drop the phone or anything, this just started occurring last Friday. Does anyone have any ideas? Will I have to get this replaced?

Have you tried restarting the phone?

It may be the case the ear piece has gone, mine did it earlier this year, went to make a phone call, heard a pop then silence, did all the usual bits and nothing, made a appointment with Apple and got the phone replaced.

Tried restarting the phone but still the same. Basically at the moment I cant use the phone function at all. How do I go about getting a replacement? I forgot to mention also that the person on the other side of the call can also hear the same noise.

Go to the Apple support page and you will be able to arrange a time and date with a Apple Genius or pop into your local Apple store.

Any idea how long it may take? I can pinpoint the issue pretty easily to be honest and I checked my cover, it's valid till Nov 2011.

When I did mine I went on a weekend and the shop was busy, I was there about an hour from getting there and being seen and walking out with a replacement phone.
