Hi chaps,

I got my iPhone 4 on Saturday and I'm very happy with it but there is one thing that is bugging me...

Some of the icons on the home screen are low-res but when in App Store they are high res and the games that weren't designed for the Retina Display look very distorted and blurry :(

I purchased the games on my old 3GS (R.I.P.) and they looked great on thaT!

It's a great phone, but considering i got the iPhone for the games, it seems annoying that some of the games look bad :(

I wonder if you were to look at them again on the 3GS, they wouldn't look as good as you remember...
Indeed. If they were full-res on the 3GS then the "effective pixels" in an upscaled picture should be crisp and the same physical size on the iP4 (2x2 : 1)

This isn't related to the OP, but I remember at least at one point, app icons in the on-phone App Store looked awful. I reckon it was because the data provider (O2) ran a transparent proxy where they recompressed images coming over HTTP.

I've noticed it in - PvZ, Worms, Sonic 1 / 2 and many others! (I have about 100 games so don't want to list all! Lol)

If apps haven't been updated to take advantage of the Retina Display then they're pixel doubled resulting in a blurry mess.

iPhone / iPhone 3G / iPhone 3GS display resolution: 480x320
iPhone 4 resolution: 964x640
