iPhone 4 not being recognised when plugged in

Hi,

So all of a sudden my iPhone 4 isn't recognised in either Windows or OSX. When I plug it in, nothing happens, it doesn't even start to charge. However, when I plug into the wall socket, it charges fine. Just when I try on a windows or mac computer it doesn't seem to do anything.

I would try a restore, from the phone, but I don't want to loose my music as recently my Mac went kaput. Is there any way I can extract the music from the phone before?

Is there any fluff in the dock port? I've seen this so many times when people think there's nothing in there, yet under close inspection there is a small amount. Give it a blast with compressed air if you have some, or carefully brush it with a soft paintbrush to clear any debris.

I had that, and what I did was to plug it into my computer and hard reboot it (hold both buttons) while it was still plugged in. That seemed to work.

Or it could be fluff
