iPhone 4 not pulling mail when in standby

I've got a nice lockinfo screen set up now and have set mail to pull every 30 minutes.

It seems when the iPhone goes into standby the WiFi is switched off, which is a good thing, however it looks like that's stopping email from pulling every 30 minutes which makes the feature completely pointless! Basically it's only pulling mail when I unlock the phone.

I don't mind it pulling through my data connection on the phone if it's going to disable WiFi in standby.

Is there any way to sort this?

Thanks.

It's funny, because I was musing through settings the other week and I noticed that it was set to check for mail but I would often go hours without it bothering if it was on standby.

Not that it's much help I guess, just that i'm in the same boat and would be interested to know why it's happening.

I'm really surprised iOS doesnt have fetch times either. So basically if it can fetch while on standby then it's going to wake me up pretty much every time!

Am I missing something here? No fetch on standby and no fetch times!?

The email feature of the iPhone is ridiculously lackluster when coming from a Blackberry, having to fetch my mail to receive calender reminders is real helpful

Mail fetched @ 15:00

Doh.

Hmm strange, mine seems to be fetching mail every so often without me touching it. Not sure if something in the background is waking it up causing the fetch (my alarm did this morning as that brings the phone out of standby).

Very disappointing that fetch on standby doesn't work properly!

Doesn't it fetch emails regardless of state if you have assigned a time frame on the 'fetch' settings anyway?

Mine fetches mail every 15minutes automatically, and will alert me audibly if a new mail comes in whilst the screen is locked.

Mine wasn't even doing that, but it looks like it's started to work now. Not sure if it needed a restart after changing some settings or what.

Push seems to chew through battery life for some reason though, or it did when I set my up my hotmail account on my iphone via Exchange.

I'll look into it. What makes it so much better?

Mail and calendar events arrive as soon as the server at the remote end gets them...rather that a scheduled fetch.

Doesn't on my iPhone. I suppose it depends on the amount of email you get.
