Hi guys,

Just received my Otterbox Defender:

Right now, while it is new, this thing seems very well built and it will give me great confidence in the safety of my iPhone while skiing (which is what I've bought this for, normally I just like the normal bumper).

The fit of the phone into the case, and the way the silicone all snaps into place seems very professionally thought out.

Looks wise, personal preference tbh - I'm a big fan of the sleekness of the naked phone but this is definitely a function over style thing - I need to be able to have a big wipeout on the snow (common thing :D) and still have a phone that works, preferably unscathed and after researching the options I think this is the case to ensure that.

(Saying this, it does look quite good in its own way, kinda like a gadget out of Modern Warfare :D)

The home, lock and volume buttons work fine through the silicone and the silent switch, earphone plug, and dock connector have flappy panels to give you access. The only parts that are uncovered are the mics and speaker, so it is not a 100% closure, worth bearing in mind if you're thinking of exposing the phone to a particularly dusty/sandy/wet environment. I will say one thing, you can use aftermarket earphones and dock connectors which is more than I can say for the official bumper ;)

Its not overly evident that the touchscreen is covered (even though it is with a fairly sturdy built-in protector), it looks and works pretty much the same as normal which is great.

Thats it really, all in all a good product for £25.

Now then the question for those who may already have one of these, you'll notice I opened by saying "while it is new, this thing seems very well built" - This is because many people complain that after a while the silicone starts to sag and the fit becomes sloppy (so to speak)... I was wondering if anyone knew a way to avoid this? Is it just a case of not taking the phone in and out on a particularly regular basis maybe or it is something that happens over time regardless?

Sorry but that looks hidious. When boarding I would just put it in a cheap plastic/leather case and put in your inside pocket - that should offer enough protection.

The naked phone is indeed sleep which is why ive decided to ditch all protection, in just over 4 mths there is not a mark on it!

No need to apologise matey, each to their own... personally I don't give a monkeys what it looks like when I'm on the slopes, and a leather case would be a definite nono since when I'd want to use it I'd have to get it out of the case altogether, then theres the death grip problem etc etc...

Plus, I don't really have an inside pocket which gives much padding from the outside...

I've read that if silicone cases start to get droopy, people stick them in the fridge.

Looks like a very sturdy case, although everyone I know who's mashed their iPhone had the same thing happen; the screen somehow managed to take the brunt of the impact.

yeah I can imagine... I suppose this case extends a fair bit in front of the screen so unless something small hit it in the middle, it should be fine :)

Those leather cases aren't as tough and add even more bulk to the phone though. Considering the amount of times I went over last time boarding I'd rather have the defender :D

In the fridge you say. I'll try that with my bumper later as that has become a little sloppy
