Hi guys.

The power/lock button on my iPhone 4 has stopped working. No give in the button press now and no response from the phone.

Just wondering if anyone here has had the issue? Did you repair it yourself? Or get someone to repair it for you?

if you went the DIY route, What did you replace? And where would you recommend for replacement parts? I've looked on amazon and can get the ribbon cable with kit for opening phone but I'm thinking it is more likely to be the button assembly it's self?

If you had someone repair this issue, how much did they charge?

Thanks to any who can help

:)

Thanks mate, that guide is good.

Anyone use somewhere they trust for parts? As they seem fairly pricey on that ifixit.

Not had time to order anything yet mate, Just started new job. Will report back when I do.

Yes, please report back if you fix it as I have the same problem. You can enable the assistive touch option in the general settings if you want to lock the phone. It can be annoying, though.

It will be the whole ribbon cable thing that needs replacing the aluminium button will be fine.

It's a bit of a fiddle and I would recommend removing the screen as its easy to damage the screen connector ribbons when you unscrew the power button.

I don't have to remove the screen as I've done many power buttons but as a newb to this and an extra precaution it's worth it.

Hi,

I've just replaced the lock button ribbon cable in my friends iPhone 4 after having total lock button failure.

The fault remains with the replacement part. Proximity sensory works fine.

Any ideas?

I ended up living with it for a while then upgraded to HTC one lol. Still got decent money for the broken iPhone.

From what I read, I was going to change the lot (button and ribbon)

Send me a trust if u want it fixing. I charge £12 for the power button repair.
On the button there is a little black nipple on the dome, that wares away thus the dome no longer compresses. New ribbon cable sorts it.

Let me know if u need it doing mate

£12? too cheap, I charge £35. I take it you're a registered business and pay tax too?

You charge £35 to replace a £3 part that takes 15 mins to do?
Tax question? Go away.

Much do you charge for the ip4 screen repair? I charge £40 and thats high around these parts.

My current repair book has 26 repairs booked in for next week ;)
All word of mouth aswell

Hardly seams worth it for the sake of £9, you know it's not all about the cost of the part as there is other costs involved in running a business!

where I live there's no real competition so I set the market rate and offer an excellent service, I also get a lot of work from people who have had the misfortune of using these clowns that charge nothing and almost destroy the phone with their lack of knowledge and cheep parts.

Haha.

Yea I know but I Dont have most of them.
Competition is hot down here, a chap is using these cheep Chinese screens and doing the ip4 screen repair for £30!!! Had a dozen or so ppl come to me after and I found them to missing the 6 screws and washers for the screen and various others missing. I use screens from a local wholesaler so I can return faulty ones same day, yea they cost me £10 more then Chinese eBay ones but I know they are decent :)

Its upsetting seeing some peoples attempts at repairing these devices, I take care when I do it and have pride :)

Its nice to see a fellow repair man here :)

Yea a common one I see is the peel off film left on the back of the lcd's and the earpiece speaker grill missing.

Also screws all in the wrong place or missing :D

But the worse one I have seen is where some chump charged £20 for an iphone 4 screen repair and removed all the glass and placed one of them cheap glass only screens in! There was like a massive gap from the lcd and the light proxi didnt work or anything lol.
