iPhone 4 Update - Error 1611

So for the first time in a long while I connect my iPhone to laptop and was given the option of updating to the latest version. Unfortunately, this failed now my phone has to be restored but this also keeps failing and giving me the error code 1611, very annoying.

Any ideas how to fix this without going to Apple?

Tried this again, and now get error 1603

Creating a new user account in Windows seems to have worked and its now switched on which is a start. Hopefully I can restore old apps/settings to it that I backed up on my usual windows username

All should be fine, when it shows the connect to iTunes logo just unplug, log back into the old account and connect up.

Just restored from backup and seems to be back to normal, phew!

Thought I was going to have to get it repaired for a while ...

Oh and it seems like we have 12 hours time difference between each other

Edit : Well, hardly back to normal, all my apps are gone

I hope they were backed up in iTunes? Either way you won't have to pay for them again.

I thought they were, but had to download them again. Suprisingly all the data from the apps were still there once installed again - saved games etc.

previously jailbroken? TinyUmbrella and other apps put entries in to your hosts file to spoof Apple's update servers, but when you want to legit update in the future, boom, error. Check your hosts file

Never jailbroken, all back to normal now - after installing apps the data from before is still there
