iPhone 4 - yellow blobs on the screen

Hi chaps,

Bit of a weird one, I've just been browsing the net on my iPhone and have had it plugged in for the last 45 mins or so, and I've noticed the screen has started forming yellow 'blobs'. One is on the left side of the screen, and the other is on the top right (where the battery indicator is).

Both have just formed now, they are noticeable and weren't there yesterday. Has anyone had this before?

I got my phone about 3-4 weeks after launch so I doubt it'll be under warranty at this point. What are the chances that Apple would fix it FOC?

Thanks.

Don't know for sure, but originally yellow blobs on brand new iPhones were down to a problem with the glue sealing the screen down iirc?

Could be related.

Well this is spooky - I've just noticed the same thing on my iPhone.... seemingly it's just appeared out of the blue the last few days.

Mine is also now out of warranty and I need to ask Apple the same question. Going to have to make a scene if they don't swap it out as this must be a manufacturing defect if it's still the issue with the glue that's appearing.

Sorry guys, I've just seen your updates.

I can confirm I'm still experiencing this issue and since my original post, the yellow blobs are getting slightly larger and are more intensely yellow.

It is happening when the phone is warm so when it's on charge and being used.

The problem I have is that it's not as noticeable when at normal temperature and certainly not as visible in a brightly lit environment (like an Apple store)

Do I need to go through AppleCare out of warranty? I reckon it's at the point now where a camera could quite easily pickup on the yellow blobs.

Thanks again.

In that case show us a photo. :D

I'll dig out the camera and get some up tomorrow night :-) just a pita as my eye keeps getting drawn to the streaky blobs!

Right, just an update on this one.

Went to the Apple store today for a Genius bar appointment. Waited around for ages after my alloted time, but managed to speak to a guy who seemed fairly clued up on everything Apple :)

He acknowledged that he could see the discolouration to the screen, but flat out refused to replace the phone without me having to pay £120 iirc for the repair. Seems a bit out of order considering he could see the issue.

Not sure where to go from here now really. I took a pic off another iphone of the discolouration, should be uploaded for your perverse viewing pleasure below ;) If you take a look at the top right of the screen by the battery indicator, there's the two streaky bits, and one on the left side towards the centre of the screen.

Excuse the fat fingers lol.

Its worth noting that with the launch of Apple Care+, they are now not allowed (by HQ) to offer out of warranty free repairs to any Apple device, unless the user has AC+ and pays the excess charge (its £75 isn't it?)
