iPhone 4S Apple Repair

I'd be tempted to just be honest.

Someone I know spilt a drink into their less week old macbook pro, it stopped working around 10 mins later.

Apple were nice enough to fix it for free but I imagine this was a one time only type thing. I doubt they'd do this more than once, however you may not be so lucky.

Okay doky just got back home from the Apple store :p

Good news and bad news I guess...

In the end, they did a liquid test to the dock connector and found signs of corrosion on the connector due to the blackcurrent :p Not covered by the warranty, so I've had to pay £139.00. However, for that amount I've been given a completely brand new shiny iPhone 4S :)

It's currently sat next to me restoring itself from the iCloud. Luckily, it said it made a backup to the cloud on the 17th August just after midnight, which is awesome news :)

So no freebie, but I'm happy with a brand new phone instead of just getting it repaired.

Unfortunately, now I have to jailbreak it all again :p

Shame no freebie can be potluck in these type of cases but agree £140 for an 'as new' replacement is still excellent.

Indeed! Also, I've definitely underestimated how awesome iCloud is! It took a while to restore everything, but it's as if I've got my old phone back! It's ridiculous! :p Only thing I've had to do is re-jailbreak and add the tweaks back on! Very very cool :) Without it, I would have been stuffed because I don't backup to iTunes very often...

Good that they give you a new one but you can get it repaired for about £40

To be honest, I didn't look after my old one so well, it had some cosmetic damage. So I'll probably get a chunk back when I sell this pristine one than if I had to sell my tattered old one :p

Overall, I'm happy :) I can't imagine getting that sort of service with any other phone manufacturer...

Pleased you got it sorted.

My home button isn't always working and just outside warranty, they want me to buy a new handset - cant say I'm thrilled!

Prob wait for the s3 to drop in price on virgin then recycle this for a £200 or so!

Post a link to your £40 source for legit replacement parts and labour.

Just google it, not hard. You think people who use independent car garages get bodged crap work done to their cars? It's the same for phones/pc's. Just cus apple didn't fix it doesn't mean it's bodged and crap.

I had this.

Get a can of contact cleaner (high street components shop...) and give it a good spray on the home button. Let it soak down the sides of the key, and press repeatedly for 30secs or so. Spray a bit in the dock connector too.

Did mine yesterday, good as new :)

So much irony. You're hardly worth entertaining. It's nothing like cars and garages as they are supplied the parts by the manufacturers. Apple do not distribute there parts to anyone other than authorised resellers. These 'Google sites' at best mention "top quality" parts not official parts.

You're clearly no personal insults if you think your £40 warranty voiding repair from the local dodgy mobile stall is as good as a complete replacement phone direct from Apple. If you wan't to give it the talk then back it up with facts and sources not stupid responses to google it and ridiculous analogies.

Of course an apple refurbished phone will be better than having the part replaced. But if your happy with spending an extra £100 for that then more fool you!

Nope many car garages use 3rd party parts. On older models the parts may not be available from the manufacture.

I used parts I bought to fix up an iPhone 3G screen, sol old wasn't worth sending it in but it's definitely not pristine. I used so call "genuine parts" too but hey ho. It's a 3G so but If I had a newer iPhone I would rather let Apple sort it.
