Hey guys,

So basically, yesterday I went ahead and plugged in my iPhone 4s into my computer/iTunes to charge it and what not and it prompted me with an update, so I was like "Sweet", I like keeping my products up to date and what not.

I download the update and begin the installation, it stops half way and gives me an error. Then when my iPhone comes back on, it has the plug into iTunes logo:

Every single time I connect it to iTunes, click restore, it asks me: "Would you like to restore and update" to which, obviously, I click yes.

It starts doing that and then I get an error, "Error 1611".

I've tried everything, I've tried:

  • Different USB ports.
  • Holding down the power button and the home button and then plugging it back into iTunes.
  • Uninstalling everything apple related and then re-installing.
  • Restarting my computer.

But nothing seems to work, anyone on here have any ideas on what it could be? I'd be greatly appreciative if you do.

When doing the restore do you put it into recovery mode? It'll pop up to installanother driver on the PC when you're in it. Try this and if it doesnt work could try deleting the ios file and get itunes to download another one.

Also according to http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 it maybe down to AV /firewall software

I try to put it in recovery mode, but it doesn't seem to be working. I hold down power + home for 30 seconds or whatever, but that just makes it restart and go back to the 'plug into itunes mode' for some reason.

I did also try by disabling both my firewall & my anti-virus, but that didn't seem to help either.

I could try adding the ports they suggest to the firewall options, see if that helps? but where would the iOS file be kept, as deleting could be of some help.

Edit: deleted the file > re-downloaded it > no change.

*sigh*

The the recovery mode again.

I had a similar problem where my phone failed an update, so I had to boot it into recovery mode and clicked restore within iTunes.

I had a similar problem where my phone failed an update, so I had to boot it into recovery mode and clicked restore within iTunes.

I fixed it, I found a program called "TinyUmbrella", there is a mode/option to get in/out of recovery there, I used that tool and I'm out of recovery.

Thanks for the help guys.

I might know what caused this looking at your PC CPU. Do you have an Asus motherboard? I used to have no end of trouble syncing with itunes and anything that involved plugging the phone in. If it's the problem I had, you either have to update your motherboard's BIOS or as a work-around, go into the bios and enable 'C-state' which is something to do with making the CPU use 1 core when it's not busy.
