iPhone 4S thinks it's docked.

After a night out my 4S now believes it's docked and as such won't play sound from the external speaker. It rings fine & plays sounds while selecting a ring tone. I did feel my pocket get slightly wet from a spilled drink but the moisture sensor has not changed.

The volume slider has disappeared inside the 'music' app and the Airplay logo shows 'Dock Connector' as ticked.

After googling around I have given the dock a good clean with a dry toothbrush but have not yet tried any isopropyl alcohol on a cotton bud yet. A full restore hasn't solved the problem.

It could be coincidence that this has occurred and is just the dock connector dieing naturally or could be linked to the spillage. It's out of warranty so I imagine an appointment at the genius bar would be pointless.

Has anybody experience similar and managed to find a fix? A replacement dock connector isn't much as a last resort.

Thanks,

BennyC

I wouldn't be surprised if the spilled drink did do the damage. I only spilt a tiny bit of blackcurrant in my iPhone 4S and it rogered it big time :p

As far as I'm aware, if you take it to the Genius Bar, they'll more than likely give you a new phone for £139 like they did for me, rather than repair it.

Have you tried plugging it into a dock and then taking it out?

My first 3G took a swim in a pitcher :p

£139 isn't too bad. That said it's functioning fine elsewhere except for outputting audio via the speaker that isn't a ringtone or text.

Alcohol doesn't seem to have helped. Guess i'll try replacing the connector.

Hoorrraaay! Nothing being a bit brutal with a screwdriver can't fix! Scrapped the top & bottom of the connector with a very small flathead screwdriver and it's fixed :) for now..... spoke to soon, a restart and it's back to how it was...bit of a fiddle and it's working again. Replacement dock should hopefully do the job.
