Iphone 5/6, What could it be?

Has a display that has reached the limits of the human eye. - only for the 3.5'' screen size which is at the low end in terms of touch screen smart phones. I would be SHOCKED if they keep the 3.5'' screen for the next version.

Knows its location on the Earth. - Standard to smart phones

Knows its location in space. - Will be (oh joy -_-) standard to smart phones

Has a great camera and HD video. - always improving

Has front facing camera. - always improving

Good battery life. - always improving

As thin as can go without being uncomfortable. - form factor needs to vary Apple are starting to loose out because its ONE form factor ONE size fits all design.

iOS 5 will have:

-Limited widgets
-Limited home screen customization
-Wifi hotspot
-Facetime over 3G

They're pretty confident 3.5" is the right size for a mobile device, so I doubt they'll be changing that any time soon.

FaceTime over 3G is never going to happen. Quality is awful and Apple won't want users to think its the FaceTime technology at fault.

They should be heading towards a bigger screen in my opinion. Better cameras and more power/multi-core/graphics chip are a given, those are coming to all smartphones.

What I'd like (not just on iphones) is true GPS not aGPS or whatever is currently used, and MUCH better battery, going for close to a week with medium usage without charging would be brilliant.

What I think though is it all depends on nintendo, the DS got people used to touch screen technology, so it made its way into phones. If the 3DS takes of, expect to see 3D phone displays fairly shortly after

A small graphics processor

This...screen fine...unless they get a S-OLED at teh same res from Samsung.

But a stand along GPU to really break the gaming market.

That and a revised Antenna obvously.....tho I can see somthign like they jsut move the positions...or a design I though of was having teh glass come around the edges, encasing it, as they did the back.

I was asking about new features not existing ones.

It has one, the 3GS had a PowerVR SGX535 GPU in it :p Can't find what the i4 has.

Either way it's going to have some sorts of improvements. I'll have that thank you very much.

Could they work a Pico-Projector in to the phone, not sure what real-world applications it would have that are useful though.

Probably OS5 Which won't run on anything but the iphone5

Hope it doesn't appear too soon not long had my 4

It wouldn't suprise me at all if Apple started locking iOS versions to handset versions. Backwards compatibility has had mixed results so far.

Once you start reaching the hardware limits of what you can put into a phone it is the software that is going to play a bigger part in making you want to upgrade.

iOS 4 was a token gesture for the 3G IMO seeing as it has the same hardware as the 2G.

I suspect the 3GS will survive OS5, well hopefully anyway :p

Looking 5 years + you reckon iOS will replace OSX? I reckon it could do with enough revisions. Would be awesome having a 27" touch screen iOS iMac!!

Depends what you mean by replace. If you mean in place of OS X then nope. If you mean more important to Apple and sell more, than 100% yes.

I mean totally replace. iOS is in its infancy and in 5 years it will be a full blown OS that can be used across the board. Why couldnt it?

iOS would be god awful on a full-size computer.

iOS is horribly restrictive - even when Jailbroken. Why would anyone want to gimp their shiny iMac or MBP?

Leave iOS on the iPhone/iPad where it belongs.

I think just iOS is there to keep the usual complications that come along with computers away from the majority of users. So they'll never want to make it so complicated users would want it over OS X.

3D would be good.

Aside from the usual upgrades I'd like to see.
Hardware:
4 inch screen.
More physical buttons (a menu and back key for starters)
Led notifications.

Software:
Improved notifications (this had been in the list for years :) )
Widgets
