Hi folks,

I've seen the reviews and the battery life figures being banded about but i'm struggling to get anywhere near them.

Most quote 7 to 8 hours of usage, but even on WIFI the best i've gotten is 6 or there abouts.

Yesterday I couldn't even get to the 5 hour mark, but then my signal is dire at work so I assume it could be that.

What usage figures are you guys getting?

Admittedly, it's still a darn sight better than my GS3s battery but I just want to make sure I don't have a dud battery or something.

Phone cost a pretty penny being 64GB sim free.

Make sure you only have what you need in Notifications (Settings - Notifications). I easily get a day of moderate use out of my 5.

Something im a bit confused about.

I noticed some apps have in-app settings for notifcations, but also mentioned in notfication centre.

If I disable them completely in Setting > Notifications , does that also disable all of their background working / pull on the battery?

Mine's all boxed up now, however I was definitely heading towards 8 hours on Wi-Fi, but on 3G I was getting no more than around 4.5 hours "usage" (my signal is varied though towards the stronger side generally, typically 3-5 bars).

My 4S had far better battery life from what I can remember, and my Nexus 4 is only slightly worse (seeing as there seem to be numerous software problems with it that seriously reduce battery life).

App notifications will typically run through Apple's own servers (there are some exceptions such as email, of course), so I doubt it will make a difference, though I could be wrong...

I've seen a significant drop in battery life on my 4s since iOS6 came out.

I've not changed any of the settings and it's definitely worse than it was on iOS5.

24hrs time depletes my battery about 30/40%, that's a mix of light gaming, texting and a mix of 3G and wifi

Guy at work has a 64gb 5, was on the phone to Vodafone today (again), he'll be getting a 3rd replacement as the battery is lasting about 6 hours without any real use (bit of music on the train to work in the morning). The rep on the phone said that on their website it doesn't have a guaranteed uptime advertised but this was complete rubbish, my colleague went nuts on the phone and was put through to a supervisor.
I was surprised that someone from Vodafone was arguing with him, basically insinuating that he was wrong!!

My 16gb has no battery issues at all, a quick Google suggests that other people have had issues with the 64gb.

I can't see why it would be specific to the 64GB model to be honest. I did have problems with mine, but I think it's just my conditions and the phone not meeting the expected time.

my 32gb is always full - hence tempted with a 64

Tesco prices I'm sure (but can't confirm) have dropped since launch, so a 64 is < 800 all in over the 12 months, in fact I think about same deal as it was for my 32gb Iphone 4 - I think just 30 quid more

I don't know whether you are going contract or PAYG of some sort, but have you considered Three and Virgin? If you only need 200 minutes and 1GB of Internet, Three will be around £740 with TCB/Quidco, and around £780 if you want unlimited data.

I have switched off a lot of my notifications that I don't need, location services off. I do have my WIFI & bluetooth on at all times.

Something I found that helped a lot recently was to go into the date and time settings and switch off "Set automatically". That seems to have added a lot of battery life recently, like yesterday when I charged phone I had 45% battery and had 13 hours standby and I think almost 5 hours of usage.

I don't think I will be able to make a fair assessment until my Giff Gaff sim arrives. EE are useless at work. I spend the day with about 1 or 2 bars of 2G if im lucky and often loose signal completely.

Could that account for the loss?

It's really hard to gauge whether I have a problem with my handset or whether this is totally normal.

Still doesn't feel as good as when I had the iPhone 4 though. I remember well that thing you could never drain the battery if you tried. Now i'm having to take my charger to work. :-(

You can't get a signal on 2G either? Either way, it'll be constantly trying to find a 3G signal, something that does eat up a lot of power.

If O2 provide decent signal in your area (3G ideally), you should see those numbers go up. By how much, however, I don't know. Few people spend all their time in full signal areas anyway.

I'm still waiting for my Giff Gaff sim comes through to test out O2s network. Because nobody else in the office has a nano sim, it's hard going physically trying out different networks. :-(

Also going to try Talk mobile for the month.

Going to make a case to T-Mobile for contract cancellation. Neither the S3 or the iP5 has been able to maintain a signal in this area since I started working here.

I usually use mine for primarily web based activity's or news apps like pulse, I have roughly 70% left after a day.

Once I start playing games though? Drains like mad

I'm on day three without a charge, I left my charger somewhere and can't get it tomorrow and because of the bloody new small dock cable no one has one I can borrow and I have no spares yet.

Wi-fi etc is all turned off and I'm barely using it.

I've found my battery life to be terrible.
Even with location services turned off and my notifications limited down I normally need to charge it every night still. I've even had to buy a spare cable to keep at work just incase its low during the day.
