Hi Guys,

Kinda confused. Just gone my iPhone 5 today and I want to put some music on it.

It says I need to update my iTunes and I should download version 10.7 or later to work my my Iphone 5.

So I download and install this and it says I need MAC OSX version 10.6.8 or later.

So I go to update software and it says I have the latest available updates.

Can anyone please help?

You're probably running OS X 10.5.x, Leopard. You need to upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.x) or higher as that's the earliest version that is supported.

It's all on the iPhone specs page: http://www.apple.com/iphone/specs.html

Syncing with iTunes on a Mac or PC requires:
  • Mac: OS X v10.6.8 or later

10.7 is the iTunes version which is soon to be superseded by 11.0

Urgh, how the hell do I purchase the OS upgrade? Apple site just tells me to click update software and go from there but it says my software is already up to date

That's a good question. How the hell DO you upgrade Leopard to Snow Leopard nowadays.

Can't see a way to upgrade to that either? sorry to be a pain guys, but I'm failing to see a way I can upgrade. My Macbook Pro is a 5.1.

Any help would be fab.

:p

On another note OP, if you do a clean install you don't have to do an upgrade to install 10.8 as there are ways also to do a clean install. What you could have done is downloaded the DMG to 'test' that it works before going to purchase it.

He's only on 10.5 though so hasn't got access to the Mac App Store.

How long ago was that mac OS?
I mean how out of date can a mac be and still be usable with their new phone?
and itunes 11, what will the minimum OS be for it to be compatible?

I knew apple phased out their support, but didn't realise it was just as fast as this.
