I have now had 2 of my "Lightning" cables replaced from Apple. The phone just refuses to charge from a socket and the only way I can get any juice into my phone is by hooking it up to my Mac's USB port; and even that isnt 100% successful.

The second cable I tried on my brothers phone and it wouldnt charge his either, thus ruling out the phone itself......

Anyone else had any cable issues on here?? After a quick google search it looks like this issue may be growing.....

Hmmm.......

I don't see how its the cables fault if it won't charge from mains power, but will from your pc. Surely it is the plug adaptor, and not the cable itself at fault?

No issues here whatsoever.

The lightning cables aren't just "dumb" cables, they have circuitry in them and change or adapt their behaviour depending on what they're connected to, so it's possible they'd behave differently and incorrectly depending on what power source is attached.

two cables (one for home, one far carrying around) and a micro-USB adaptor here for in the car.... all seem to be working fine so far, apart from one of the cables that went swimming when I knocked a glass of water over during the night in a massive man-flu addled nightmare.

It's taking some brain training to not bother plugging the mUSB adaptor in without thinking, as they've labeled one side with the USB logo so you don't try and plug that part of the cable in the wrong way.

Hopefully they don't/won't get as toasty as the Thunderbolt cable hanging off the back of my iMac and SSD/Thunderbolt sled combo.

The plug adapter is fine, as it powers my old 4S fine, maybe I have been a tad unlucky, but I still think apple may have a slight issue from looking at other complaints on this issue.... A couple are claiming "static" but who knows!!!

Not really sure why my mac would power the handset, but even when I could get this to work I had to mess around with it...

It's weird that a new cable resolves the issue, hopefully this will last....

My 5 came with a dodgy cable as well. Pretty much exactly what you saw. It would intermittently work and I seemed to have more luck with it from my PC's USB "power" port (provides more power than convential USB) than the mains plug.

Tried multiple plugs too and same in all of them. Sometimes would work, more often wouldn't. Mates cable worked everytime in my phone and I ended up getting a spare from CPW which was fine as well. Took the cable to Apple and they replaced on the spot without even testing it.

No issues here either, just the one cable tried though. Could it have been the plug rather than the cable?
