iPhone 5 Sleep / Wake Replacement Programme

I doubt it's a case of finally acknowledging it, it's more that product is around the age where uses are going to need coverage outside of warranty / consumer law. It has happened with other Apple products before.

As a whole they're pretty good with this sort of thing.

Mine says it is covered for a replacement, I may just swap it for peace of mind if im allowed.

Edit: The same thing happened with my sisters 4s, are apple providing free replacements for previous models under a different support ticket?

I have tried to put my serial number in and it says there is an error with the system like it said yesterday afternoon!

Checked mine the other day and it shows as eligible. Don't know why I bothered the check though, I got mine about 2 weeks after launch and it still works perfectly.

Mine's eligible (and playing up), so I've booked an appointment.

It's slightly annoying to me though as I went in only a month or so ago and they refused to replace/repair the phone because of it, because it was out of the 1 year warranty (by about 3 months). This experience was contrary to pretty much everything I've read online about them happily replacing hardware slightly out of the warranty period as long as it's not physically damaged and yada yada.

Ahh this is good news, mine has been playing up for a few months. Anyone know why it's necessary to wipe/reset your phone before repair?

I've already been in and had to book a genius appointment. They dont give you a new phone, they send it away for repair. I will be asking what sort of extended support they offer on this repair though, as i would expect 90 days minimum

Same here, don't know if I can be bothered to go all the way to the Apple store and then have to go back a week later to collect it. If they were swapping over for refurb phones I'd probably take them up on their offer!

They probably don't want to have to be responsible for the data on the phone in case something goes wrong. Even if it wasn't necessary to wipe it, I would anyway. Restoring from an iCloud backup is a trivial process.

Mine is eligible, and is broken. Has anyone actually done this? It's a major ball-ache being without my phone for a day let alone a week..

I'm trying to send mine off, scheduled UPS to collect it between 10-1 today. Get back after work and a card was pushed through at 3:15 saying I wasn't in.

Can't contact Apple because my phone is in the UPS bag waiting to be collected...
