I have decided to stay with iPhones and so I am going to get a iPhone 5 64GB.

I want to get an truly unlimited data tariff with tethering. There seems to be two options:

---Orange--- iPhone 51 Extra

32GB - Monthly Cost = £51 and phone cost = £39.99 => Total 24 month cost = £1263.99 (Divided by 24 months = £52.67)
64GB - Monthly Cost = £51 and phone cost = £129.99 => Total 24 month cost = £1353.99 (Divided by 24 months = £56.41)

Advantages:

- Both 2G and 3G
- Very good coverage
- T-mobile and Orange masts
- 4G will be available soon (Liverpool for me)

Disadvantages:

- No real info if it will cost extra using 4G
- Possibly extra £5 a month

---Three--- The One Plan

32GB - Monthly Cost = £39 and phone cost = £89.00 => Total 24 month cost = £1025 (Divided by 24 months = £42.71)
64GB - Monthly Cost = £42 and phone cost = £109.00 => Total 24 month cost = £1117 (Divided by 24 months = £46.54)

SIM Free

32GB - Monthly Cost (1 Month contract) = £25 and phone cost = £599 => Total 24 month cost = £1199 (Divided by 24 months = £49.95)
64GB - Monthly Cost (1 Month contract) = £25 and phone cost = £699 => Total 24 month cost = £1299 (Divided by 24 months = £54.13)

Advantages:

- 4G is coming
- 4G will not cost extra
- Cheaper

Disadvantages:

- No word about 4G coverage
- Only 3G
- Network coverage not as good as Orange (Rumour :) )

Have I missed anything and what do you think?

I am with o2 at the moment and the signal where I work and where I live is not very good. My job also takes me to different ports and out to sea, so coverage checker is not always useful for me.

According to what? 3 have been superb for me having switched from Vodafone, I also get very good reception where my friend on Orange doesn't.

Clearly it's subjective to your location and where you visit, but I would dismiss any of the typical '3 have no reception' rumours as it simply isn't the case any more.

Also, £51 a month with Orange! :eek:

You'd be better off buying the phone from Apple (on a 0% credit card if you can't afford it upfront) and getting a SIM free deal.

The coverage for 3 comment is from what I have heard and looking at there coverage map. But saying that, a lot of people say that they don't have any problems. Coverage maps are not always that good as I am supposed to have good signal at my office with o2, but I don't.

I am leaning towards 3. I am going to check out how it works out going sim free. I have forgotten about that :o

I am working in Ramsgate at the moment and I just phoned up the 3 store and they have them in stock, so I should have an iPhone 64GB in an hour or so :D

I got it and I am very happy :)

The girl in the store told me (If she is right) that when they start with 4G it will not cost anything extra.

I went for a white one and I was worried beforehand, but I think it looks really nice.

o2 has been really poor for me where I live and work. I did internet speed check here in Ramsgate (Live in Chester) and Three (iPhone 5) was more than double as fast with 3G than o2 (iPhone 4). Tethering is working well. Happy with Three so far. Lets see how the reception is when I get back to the office and home.

I just sold my old iPhone 4 32Gb, to someone on the vessel, for £250 cash, which is not bad :D
